Oliver Stern is a working artist based in Ithaca, New York. They received their Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cornell University in May, 2024. They work in charcoal drawing and intaglio printmaking, rendering landscapes through exercises in translating memory and observation. Stern’s practice involves a form of self inquiry through observational drawing, rendering their body and evidence of their perception to question what separates themself from their external surroundings. They use perspective as a vehicle for registering human presence within the landscape, employing a panoramic perspectival method to suggest movement across time and space. They find revelation in the act of journeying underneath highways, through tunnels, by the beginnings of rivers, and along sites of industrial decay. In these marginal landscapes, they engage with fleeting feelings of entropy and rebirth. They have shown work in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Houston, Ithaca and Rome.
